THE TOWN

Hit the 290 Wine Trail, or visit a brewery or distillery. Enjoy a great meal. Listen to live music. Visit a world class history museum, or a historic fort or farm. Do an art walk, or simply visit a gallery. Take in a play. Join in on one of our many festivals, or perhaps one of our grand parades. Make memories.
Straying Beyond the Ranch

Agarita Creek is located minutes away from Fredericksburg, in the heart of the Texas Hill Country (and its most popular tourist destination). For general information about what’s happening in our ‘Burg, check out the following:

Like wines, or just visiting wineries? Fredericksburg and Gillespie County represent the fastest growing wine region of the US, with varieties to please any palate. All are within a short drive or, better yet, arrange or just join one of our many wine shuttles operating in town. All participate in Wine Road 290, and our personal favorites include Becker, Hilmy, and Williams Chris (try on a local bourbon while you are there at Garrison Bros. – right across 290).

Prefer a craft beer? Then visit the Pedernales Brewing Company and the Fredericksburg Brewing Company. Both offer award winning beers. Pedernales Brewing Company offers off premises sales and regular tastings. The Fredericksburg Brewing Company is the oldest continuing brewpub in Texas, and offers on premises sales of its beers and a nice food menu in a comfortable atmosphere.

Like a little art with (or without) your beer or wine? The first Friday of each month marks the First Friday Art Walk, when local galleries open to the public for what has become one of the most anticipated events each month for tourists and locals alike. Is live music on your must do list? In addition to Luckenbach, Texas, the holy grail of Texas music, there are many local venues on Main Street and beyond to supply that music fix.

Theater more to your liking? The Fredericksburg Theatre Company might be right up your alley. History buff? The National Museum of the Pacific War, located on the site of the historic Nimitz Hotel (which features prominently in Fredericksburg’s history), has you covered – just make sure you allow enough time. Interested in learning about history when the Hill Country was a little less civilized. How about Fort Martin Scott, the Texas Rangers Heritage Center, or the Sauer-Beckmann Farm (at the LBJ State Park and Historic Site .

Prefer outdoor adventure? How about a morning climb of Enchanted Rock? And there are great swimming holes on great Hill County Rivers near Kerrville, Blanco, and Johnson City.

All that activity is bound to make you hungry. For breakfast or brunch, we heartily recommend Sunset Grill or the Rathskeller. Casual dining options in Fredericksburg abound. We recommend Sunset Grill and Rathskeller again, as well as Woerner Warehouse and Hilltop Café. Want a local fine dining experience? We recommend Otto’s, August E’s, and Vaudeville. Beer Garden? We recommend Hondo’s on Main, Tubby’s, and Auslander. Barbeque? We like Cranky Franks. Want an authentic German fix? Check out Lindenbaum (but leave your Visa and Mastercard home; they take only take American Express and Discover – long story). Thai? Ginger & Spice is the real deal!
